An immersive reading of the complete novel.
Read along, word by word.
The Metamorphosis (1915) opens with the travelling salesman Gregor Samsa waking to find himself transformed overnight into a monstrous insect, his first thought not of his own horror but of the train he is about to miss. Confined to his room and unable to make himself understood, Gregor becomes a burden to the family he once supported, who turn from pity to revulsion as his presence wears on them. Kafka's most famous work, and one of the defining fables of the modern condition — a study of alienation, shame, and the conditional nature of love.
