The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) follows young Dorothy Gale and her dog Toto, swept by a cyclone from a Kansas farm to the magical Land of Oz, where they journey along the yellow brick road in search of the mysterious Wizard who can send them home. The first of Baum's fourteen Oz novels, the book reimagined the European fairy tale for an American audience and introduced characters that have become permanent fixtures of pop culture.
